DrumnakyleProject Info

An extension to a farmhouse set in an elevated position on a hillside above Loch Tummel, surrounded by the ruined settlement of Drumnakyle.

The farmhouse has been extensively refurbished and a new space added on the West side framing views to Schiehallion and to the loch below. The extension manifests externally as a massive wall, formed using locally salvaged stone. It tapers to a narrow prow and one end and thin steel edges are used at openings and parapet; clearly defining it as a contemporary intervention. A large opening has been formed through the 1m thick gable wall to link this kitchen extension and the main living dining room.
